Frog,
Can you post the code here for how to make the About Us button?

I know I saw it yesterday in another topic thread, but I can't find it today.

Thank you!!

Note, this link goes to the updated post in my intro (that's the ?#post8014532 argument) rather than the whole topic. You can determine the post number from the URL by clicking on the "Post #" link in the top right of a post.

Too funny! GG and I just had a conversation about techies and documentation. I finished a data conversion project last week and have been procrastinating over writing up the documentation, so thank you for that!

btw, you can paste code into a message like this (without having to insert spaces) using the [nocode] tag.

Darn [nocode] tag didn't show up first time, had to use it twice...

Here’s some techie info on URLs. Oy can write up the end-user documentation…

You can use a link to the beginning of your intro but if some aspects have changed you may want to post an update. You can link to that specific post via the URL. Actually it’s a URI because it includes the protocol (http in this case) otherwise it won’t be displayed as a clickable link on this board. And you wonder why techies don’t write user manuals?

Anyway, just navigate to your intro (i.e. go to the intro section and click on your intro, or create one if you haven’t done so already). Copy the “address” from your browser. Mine looks like this (the extra parameters are because I have my board settings in my profile to display 90 items and to go to the newest unread message):

http://forum.outofthefogsite.com/topic/561242/1/?x=90#new

All you need is the part up to and including the last slash. For my intro, this would be:

http://forum.outofthefogsite.com/topic/561242/1/

If you’ve posted an update to your intro and want to go to a specific post (while displaying the rest of the thread so folks can scroll up and down) then you have to determine the post number. If you’re comfortable editing a URL, do this:

Every post has a link in the top right (e.g. Post #2). If you click the link you’ll see the post by itself and the “address” from the browser will tell you the post number. For example, the link to my updated intro post is:

http://forum.outofthefogsite.com/single/?p=8014532&t=561242

This tells me the post number is: 8014532

To display the post in the original thread, start with the link to your intro topic (see above) and add a reference to the post number like this:

http://forum.outofthefogsite.com/topic/561242/1/?#post8014532

You can also get the post number via “List Member’s Posts” in your own profile. Find the post and click the “View Full Topic” link.

Haggis may know of a more elegant way to do this. I just hack around until I find something that works… :sly:

Btw, button consulting services are available via PM for a flat fee of 200 juicy house flies or 1,000 fruit flies. Other insect forms of payment are acceptable at current RiverBank exchange rates…

elegant? moi? (:

Nice job Frog. I shudder to think how long you spent figuring the code out for that. Especially on the color codes. If you want I can send you a copy of the OOTF forum CSS (warning it's long & nasty) if you want to search for an exact match.

Also I'm amazed you found an ascii char for ◘ makes me wonder what else is in there amid all the happy faces and clubs & spades etc. I can probably send you a cropped version of Posted Image or something and if we cropped it just right the border may be the right dimensions

Often wrong but never in doubt.

What can I say, I'm a geek... :cool2:

I tried to download the style sheet but the only ones referenced via a URI in the source are Zetaboard's and OOTF_Shared.css (which has some of the banner colors but not much else). I ended up using the color palette in Paint to pick from a captured screenshot and then converted the RGB values to hex...

They should be the same color codes but the real buttons use a color gradient which can't be duplicated with a simple background. An image would work better but I couldn't figure out how to create a clickable image with just the BBCodes and I'm sure the site wouldn't allow embedded HTML for security reasons.

I didn't check but if special characters from the full unicode set are available we could have all kinds of fun! What's "frog" in Japanese kana?

p.s. for context...

GG's just told me she's making the nectarine lemonade and my reply was "colon woohoo colon"

Thanks Frog - I think I've cracked it!

On a sadder note, haven't been able to get hold of any Sailor Jerry at Sainsburys but the search continues!
